Since the beginning of last year, the world has talked a lot about coronavirus. It is because of him that many people are at home in quarantine in order to avoid contagion. Now more than ever it’s time to stay calm and follow the expert medical recommendations. Once well informed, the population will be well and overcome this disease.
What’s the coronavirus?
According to the Ministry of Health’s website, coronavirus is a family of viruses that causes respiratory infections. The new agent for the virus is COVID-19 – yes, this is the correct name for the pandemic the world is now facing. Since no contact has yet been made with this new agent, we still have no immunity to it. Unfortunately, there is still no cure, but the medical community is working to understand and fight the disease.
What are the symptoms?
They look a lot like the flu. That is, cough, runny nose, fever, sore throat and body, difficulty breathing and sometimes diarrhea. That’s why it’s essential that you keep an eye on your body. If it presents any of these problems, look for a hospital or health center.
How does the transmission happen?
It occurs through droplets. That is, through shaking hands, saliva, sneezing, coughing, catarrh and contaminated objects and surfaces, this includes cell phones, doorknobs, computer keyboard, handrails, public transportation support and toys. Another fundamental point: it is important to avoid contact with people who have a fever and cough or other respiratory symptoms. In cases like this, the ideal is to keep at least 1 meter away.
How to avoid the spread of the corona virus?
In order to protect oneself, it is fundamental to adopt some habits. Check it out:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water. Clean between your fingers, nails and wrist. If you do not have soap within reach, use alcohol gel, especially after touching the cell phone, pick up handles, handrails and public transport supports.
- Keep the rooms with the windows open and well ventilated.
- When you cough or sneeze, cover your mouth and nose with your arm or use a tissue. If you use a tissue, throw it away immediately.
- When entering the house, take off your shoes and try to take a bath and wash your clothes.
- If you have traveled and present the symptoms, don’t forget to share this with your healthcare professional. If you only have a few mild respiratory symptoms and have not traveled, it is best to stay home until you recover.
- Avoid shaking hands, hugging or kissing people with these symptoms. Also avoid sharing personal items. If you need to care for someone with a fever, cough, and difficulty breathing, be sure to wear a mask and sanitize your hands.
- Clean and disinfect surfaces such as cell phones, handles, handrails, toys, purses, keys, wallets, etc…
- Stay away from the fake news. Find out about updates from trusted sites like the Ministry of Health.
